As part of efforts to improve the aesthetics of the capital city, yesterday more than 500 used and damaged tyres were removed from 23 Agricola Public Road.
Reports from residents are that the land belonging to ace Guyanese race car driver, Mark Vieira, was being used illegally by a nearby mechanic/ tyre shop to store used tyres.
Yesterday, Vieira summoned reporters to the location and reported that he was doing his duty as ordered by City Hall in preparation for the Heads of Government conference. He added that he was being hindered by a man who had allegedly brandished a gun to stop the removal of the tyres.
Before long, five trucks were queued up to be loaded with the tyres. A Bobcat was there to work for several hours.
The removal cost, Vieira said, will be borne from his pocket.
