A Linden shop owner was further remanded by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Royston Jerome also known as “Rice”, 37, of One Mile, Wismar, is accused of causing grievous bodily harm on Ancel Marello.
It was alleged that the accused on May 28, at Potaro River, Jerome inflicted grievous bodily harm on Marcello. It was further alleged that on the same day with the intent to maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm, he discharged a loaded firearm at Marcello. He pleaded not guilty to the charge. Jerome was represented by attorney at law Adrian Thompson.
According to the lawyer, on the day in question, the accused was at Jerome’s shop purchasing liquor on credit amounting to $6,000.
He said that the virtual complainant became heavily intoxicated and customers who were at the shop also became annoyed. He said that the VC is not sure how he even got the gunshot, he told the police that he was running away when he felt something hit his ankle. “My worship Marcello doesn’t have eyes behind his back so he can’t say who actually shot him.”
The lawyer further noted that his client would not jeopardize his freedom for a meagre $6,000 Guyana dollars.
However the virtual complainant who was present in court said that it was Jerome who shot him.
Jerome was remanded to prison and is expected to make another court appearance on June 22.
