Residents of the closely-knit village of Richmond Hill, Leguan, were thrown into mourning early yesterday as the body of 69 year-old Ronald Klass, a well-known pensioner, was found in a trench.
Reports are that passersby made the discovery around 6:30 yesterday. This newspaper was told that the pensioner left his home at Richmond Hill, Leguan, around 18:30 hours on Thursday to visit some family friends who had come in from United States. That was the last he was seen alive.
According to a police source, while Klass was at a family friend’s home at a neighbouring village called Kingstown he was seen consuming alcohol.
After spending some time there Klass picked up his bicycle and left shortly after midnight. He never made it home. They found his bicycle a short distance from his home. Further checks later led relatives and friends to his body, which was in a nearby trench. He was lying face down. Police were immediately summoned to the area and Klass’s body was removed. The body is at the Leguan Cottage Hospital mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
Police are working on the theory that the man was intoxicated when he left his friend’s home and fell off his bike. He probably rolled into the trench and was unable to help himself.
