The wife of shot taxi driver, Winston Andrews, who was shot by a lone gunman, has said that his condition has vastly improved.
According to Maria Andrews, her husband has been removed from the Georgetown Public Hospital’s High Dependency Unit to an open ward.
On Easter Day last, Andrews was shot by a lone gunman in the stomach just in front of his Prashad Nagar home. The gunman made good his escape with some $1.3 M in cash and the man’s car. The police did manage to get back the car.
The woman said that she is yet to hear from the police on the matter, which she believes has something to do with police involvement.
The woman, who is a Brazilian national, said she is at her wits end as the police are not taking her complaint seriously.
Mrs. Andrews said she believes that police ranks who had stopped her husband moments before he was robbed are involved in the incident.
According to the woman, the ranks who were in the vehicle during a search saw the cash and enquired where he was going with the money and where he had got it from.
Once Andrews showed the police proof that the money was legally obtained, the woman said the ranks asked him for his exact address, which he did give.
Moments after arriving at his home, while opening his gate, Andrews was robbed and shot. What was even stranger, Mrs. Andrews said, was the fact that the police car, which had stopped her husband moments before the incident, happened to be a few doors away from their premises when the robbery occurred.
