Many female students of the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) have voiced concern over the numerous break-ins at the teacher training institution, especially since the male intruder seems to have an obsession for their undergarments.
The students have reported hearing footsteps in the ceiling, and they claim that they have, on a few occasions, seen the man escaping.
One of the girls gave chase once, and in a panic, the thief dropped a bag of the women’s clothes. The girls in the CPCE have expressed extreme concern, since when the man breaks into the dorms, he has a tendency of rummaging through the women’s underwear and placing them on the beds. The intruder has also taken small amounts of foodstuff.
There have been no reports of anyone breaking into the male dorms.
There is the fear among the students of a sexual assault. “We shouldn’t have to worry about our safety,” said one of the women, “at least not here.”
The police had been summoned to the CPCE, earlier this year, but they said that the intruder had already left the premises.
On Tuesday, last, when many of the women returned to the CPCE from their holidays, they said that they found most of the rooms ransacked, with clothes scattered all over the place.
Sources within the female dorms of the CPCE have said that numerous reports have been made to the administration, but nothing has been done to rectify the situation thus far. “They (administration) told us that we were imagining things,” said one of the girls in the dorms. (Rustom Seegopaul)
