Several gyms from across the country will be vying for top honours when the Guyana Amateur Weightlifting Association (GAWA) stages its National Novice and Schoolboys Weightlifting Championships at Club Blue Note, 200 Camp Street Georgetown, this morning.
Twenty-three lifters from three affiliate gyms will be flexing their muscles, among them Kenrick Cozier from the True Foundation Gym. He competes in the 62 kg class. His gym mate, Kenrick Cozier will also compete for honours in the 56kg class.
Odel Persaud will also vie for championship honours in the 62kg class along with Derrick Hyman from the Barims Gym on the East Bank, Essequibo. Admission is free and the GAWA is asking members of the public to render full support to the event. Starting time is 10:00hrs.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) will also stage its novices and intermediate tournament at the Chamber of Commerce Building, Waterloo Street, South Cummingsburg today.
Members that are listed among the top ten in the latest ratings are debarred from this competition. Nevertheless, keen competition is anticipated from the likes of Lindener, Grace Hercules, Ruby Cummings, Paul Adams, Curtis Liverpool and Maurice Munroe among others. Word formation time is 10:00hrs sharp.
