– Guyanese rum the most expensive
The Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel’s Lobby Lounge was recently bestowed the title of the ‘Bar with the world’s most varieties of rum commercially available’ by the Guinness World Records. The Lobby Lounge boasts an assortment of 102 varieties of rum from different parts of the world.
The most expensive among the Lobby Lounge’s wide selection is the El Dorado 25-year-old rum, referred to as the “liquid gold of Guyana” and one of the smoothest rums ever produced.
Speaking with the Brand Ambassador for Demerara Distilleries Limited (DDL), Carl Kanto, Kaieteur News was told that it came as no surprise to the company that its rum had copped the spot as the most expensive rum among the 102 different types of rum at the Lobby Lounge, seeing as it had been aged in barrels for quarter of a century.
The Brand Ambassador added that all of El Dorado’s rums had won awards, and he noted that the 15-year-old rum had been winning the title as the World’s Best Rum for seven years running.
Speaking at the Marco Polo award was the General Manager and Area Director, Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel, John Girard, who said: “This is indeed an exciting milestone for us.
This world record lends a significant boost to our efforts of promoting a greater appreciation for rums as a popular and truly distinctive spirit.”
Among the most premium and exotic brands from all over the globe were a variety of rums from the Caribbean, including English Harbour Dark Rum from Antigua and Barbuda, Foursquare Spiced Rum from Barbados, Goslings Family Reserve Old Rum from Bermuda, Barcelo Imperial 10 Years from the Dominican Republic, Plantation Grenada 1998 from Grenada, Reserve du Domaine Barbancourt 15 Years from Haiti, and J. Wray and Nephew Over proof White Rum from Jamaica.
