Police are still hunting an armed robbery suspect who escaped while being transported in a police vehicle last Monday.
Junior Katwaroo, 18, of 419 Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, seized the opportunity to secure his freedom when the vehicle slowed down in traffic.
Another prisoner, Mark Mohamed, 26, also of Grove, was not so lucky because he was recaptured minutes after he followed Katwaroo.
This newspaper was reliably informed that at about 18:00 hours the two prisoners who are wanted for questioning in relation to armed robbery on the East Bank of Demerara were placed in the tray of a police vehicle.
As the vehicle reached the entrance to the Diamond Housing Scheme, it was forced to slow down because of the heavy traffic and crowd.
Seizing the opportunity, the two suspects jumped out of the vehicle and using the crowd as cover ran away from the police.
Ranks gave chase and Mohamed was arrested after he jumped into a nearby trench, sustaining a cut on his right foot in the process, while Katwaroo escaped into some nearby bushes.
Mohamed was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was treated and subsequently returned to police custody.
