Captain Kattie Ann Punch (53) and Sherica Campbell (78) featured in a 2nd wicket partnership of 152 which helped propel the locals to a formidable total of 180-3, before Guyana restricted Trinidad and Tobago to 150-9 to win by 30 runs and complete a whitewash in the final game of the Schoolgirls Windball Cricket series which ended yesterday, at the National Park Tarmac.
Sent in to bat after losing the toss, the Guyanese posted a challenging total due mainly to some terrific hitting from Campbell, who smashed 11 fours and 2 maximums in her innings, while Punch added 7 boundaries and a solitary six during her stay at the crease.
Akaze Thompson (17) and Leanna Harris (2) were still there at the end of the allotted 20 overs.
Bowling for the Trinidadians, Rachael Bissoon was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2-18 off 3 overs.
Needing 181 to avoid a whitewash, the Trinidadians made a spirited reply with the in-form Akala Sheppard (50) and Shayan Martyr (53) sharing in a 4th wicket stand of 114, before the former’s dismissal via the run out route created a major slide as wickets fell at regular intervals.
Sheppard’s knock contained 4 fours and 2 sixes, while Martyr’s innings was laced with 5 boundaries and 3 massive sixes.
Cindy Jattan and Campbell were the best bowlers on show for Guyana, grabbing two wickets apiece.
Punch and Sheppard were later named the tournament’s Most Valuable Players.
The presentation of prizes was done by Guyana Teachers Union President (GTU) Colwin King.
The tournament was organised by Al Sport & Tour Promotions / GTU with assistance from the National Sports Commission.
Meanwhile, it was disclosed that a return visit by Guyana is scheduled for October.
