The packed Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) 2019 season continued last weekend with several important matches completed despite heavy rain fall.
Playing at the Area ‘H’ Ground, Rose Hall Tigers consisting of mostly veteran RHTY&SC members defeated Tamarind Root to become the first team from Lower Corentyne to reach the semifinals of that Zone.
Tamarind Root was dismissed for 96 off 18.2 overs with S. Jugister 18, David Prahalad 16 and Dillip Rangasammy 15, the principal scorers. Khemraj Mahadeo, Jamal Jarvis and Therbuwan Jagdeo took two wickets apiece for RHT Tigers.
In reply, the home team raced to 99 for 3, Balchand Baldeo scored 48 not out and Delbert Hicks 15 not out. The batsmen dismissed were Mark Papannah 12, Rondalph Lewis 00 and Jamal Jarvis 04. D. Looknauth took 2 for 20 in a losing cause.
RHT Tigers would play the winner of the Albion vs Fyrish quarterfinals match in the lone semifinal while the winner of the RHT Bakewell and Chesney match would advance to the final after drawing a bye.
Rose Hall Canje Cricket Club continued their remarkable progress by advancing to the final of the New Amsterdam/Canje Zone by defeating Police in the quarterfinals and then upsetting favourite Young Warriors CC in the semifinals.
On Saturday they defeat Police by 103 runs. Batting first, they amassed 238 for 7 from their 100 balls with Moonsammy Verasammy hitting a majestic 126 not out while Jermone Henry 35 offered support.
K. Amsterdam took 2 for 20 for Police, who in reply reached 135 for 8. Amsterdam returned with the bat to score 35. Left a
rm spinner Mark Sampson took 6 for 20 and Balram Samaroo 2 for 18.
On Sunday Rose Hall Canje restricted YWCC to 85 for 6 off their 100 balls with Mortimer Fraser 20, Sanjay Khan and A. Khan 16, the top scorers as Mark Sampson 2 for 12 and Raymond Vankenie 2 for 18 bowled well for the home team.
Needing to score 86 runs to book a place in the finals, RH Canje reached 86 for 3 in 13.2 overs. Michael Campbelle blasted a quick fire 32 while J. Henry was unbeaten on 30 along with skipper Ameer Rahaman 11 not out. Kassim Khan and Anil Beharry took a wicket each for YWCC.
Young Warriors had reached the semifinal by getting past Betsy Ground by 76 runs at the Cumberland Ground on Saturday. They scored 152 for 4 from 100 balls with Trevon Stanislaus 76 (8×4 4×6) and Suresh Dhanai 32 not out (3×4 2x) leading the way.
Kishan Gangaram took 2 for 24 for Betsy Ground which in reply were bundled out for a meagre 76; only Y. Jugister and Gangaram with 12 each reaching double figures. Trevon Stanislaus, Sanjay Khan and Kassim Khan took two wickets apiece. East Bank Blazers has already reached the semifinals and would play the winner of Flying Star vs Guymine CC quarterfinal scheduled for this Saturday.
