The Flying Ace cycle Club (FACC) is doing all in its powers to keep cycling going in Berbice and also to keep its riders fit and ready for major upcoming events. The club has organised their third annual Father’s Day Cycle race. The 10 laps cycle road race is set for Sunday around the Town of New Amsterdam.
The event will be for cyclists of the club only. The riders will pedal off from in front of Rainbow Bar, Charles Place and Republic Road, New Amsterdam, turn left into Vryheid Street, left into Main Street, left into Philadelphia Street, another left into Republic road ten times before finishing at its place of origin. The cyclists will be sent on their way by Her Worship, the Mayor of New Amsterdam Winifred Haywood. The race will pedal off at 1300hrs.
Prizes will be awarded to the first five finishers, the top three juveniles, the first four 12-14 riders along with eight sprint prizes. The prizes will be presented to the winners by Mayor Haywood immediately after the race.
Coach of the FACC Randolph Roberts expressed his gratitude to all sponsors on board including Mr. Lloyd Roberts, Station Sergeant Philbert Wilburg, Glilz Collection, Poonai’s Pharmacy, attorney at law Murseline Bacchus, Gossai and Gossai law Firm, Hilbert Foster, Jokewsans Restaurant and Fix it electronics among others.
During the week Mayor Haywood presented a sponsorship check to Balram Narine, Captain of the FACC at a simple ceremony held at the Rainbow Bar located at Charles Place and Republic Road, New Amsterdam.
Mayor Haywood also shared her sentiments about the event and expressed her appreciation for the work being done by the FACC and Coach Randolph Roberts.
Roberts expressed his appreciation to Mayor Haywood and the other sponsors for the continued supports to the FACC over the years. (Samuel Whyte)
