Officers from the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) yesterday intercepted a shipment of several cases of Johnnie Walker whisky concealed in barrels at a Georgetown port.
According to information, officers were on a drug enforcement operation yesterday morning when they opened a barrel that should have contained clothes, but instead was neatly stacked with boxes of the whisky.
Two other barrels were also discovered with whiskey. Kaieteur News understands that the shipment was made from a Caribbean port via Holland.
Officials are attempting to track down the consignee and believe that this may have been part of a larger smuggling ring.
The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) is looking to get rid of at least 10 All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) as well as several engines.
There have been several recent instances where GRA officers have intercepted undeclared liquor entering the country.
GRA recently registered its intention to “dispose of” over 220 cases of high-end liquor. GRA has 110 cases of Tequila Ocho (750ml); 25 cases of Absolut Vodka, 75 cases of Johnnie Walker Black Label Whisky and 10 cases of Johnnie Walker Double Black.
Also, the entity says, it has one bottle of Tequila Silver Patron (750ml); four bottles of Crown Royal Whisky (50ml) and ten bottles of Gronlivet Whisky (50ml).
BE THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL TO THE FOREIGN EXPLOITERS
