Dear Editor:
Starting in July 2018, Uganda will tax its citizens for using social media networks including WHATSAPP, TWITTER and FACEBOOK. What impact such a tax will have on that country? Clearly the Government of Uganda led by an intellectually bankrupt septuagenarian who has been in power since 1986 because of widespread election irregularities.
The system is supported by an Elections Commission weighed in favour of the President. Why? The President has exercised unilateral authority to impose a Chairman on their Elections Commission. Sounds familiar?
Only a democratically stagnant politician would want to stack the Elections Commission in his favour as a means to perpetuating a shambolic system of elections in a nation. It is this kind of regressive thinking that leads politicians to do the most “dotish” of things like tax social media rather than the fiscally responsible act of cutting the cost of their Cadillac lifestyle in a donkey cart economy.
President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda promised the people in 2016 that he will fight poverty and corruption although he had been in charge of the country for 30 years and it is under his watch the greatest growth of poverty and corruption occurred.
Isn’t it the same thing we heard with the promises of the good life? Where is the good life for the common man in Guyana? Instead today we are getting heavy doses of “passing the buck” as the well connected newly sun propagandist defends the under-performance of this Granger regime.
Regards
Albert Allen
