Belony denies Krakowsky to return to the podium
Despite accruing 5 points and finishing among the top six in the previously staged Open championships, Leon Belony failed to make it on the podium by dint of a more inferior spread; that championship was won by James Krakowsky.
Belony bounced back last Sunday afternoon and captured the top honours when the curtains were drawn on the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) Open championships at the Herdmanston Lodge, Anira Street Queenstown.
Belony amassed an impeccable 6 points with a positive spread of 682 to relegate Krakowsky to second place with 4 points and a positive spread of 395. Maurice Munru improved his performance significantly and captured the final podium spot after amassing 4 points and a positive spread of 123.
Belony defeated Kevin Williams (176), Michael Benjamin (101), Krakowsky (10), Munru (154), Wayne Cave (308) and Delon Moffatt (33).
Krakowsky’s points were accrued after victories over Cave (84), Moffatt (72), Benjamin (233) and Ovid Williams (44). His two losses were at the hands of Belony (10) and Kevin Williams (28).
Munru lost to Ovid Williams (9) and Belony (154) but made up with victories over Cave (32), Benjamin (81), and Kevin Williams (123). He also benefitted from a bye.
