Recently-captured murder suspect Stafrei Hopkinson Alexander, was yesterday arraigned on three charges
of murder when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Stafrei Hopkinson Alexander of Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown appeared in court before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and was not required to plead to the charges.
He is accused of murdering Shevon Gordon on April 4, 2015 at her Block 22 Wismar Linden home during the course of a robbery.
He was also charged for the murder of his co-accused in the robbery, Terrence Maxwell Thomas at Wismar, Linden on February 9, 2015 whose body was found in the Demerara River last December according to reports. While he was in custody for several counts of robbery and murder police also allege that he escaped lawful custody at the Mackenzie Police Station on December 8, 2015.
Hopkinson was read a third murder charge which said between February 9 and February 12, 2015 at Chung Lee Hill, Wismar, Linden, he murdered Richard Wellington.
When the chief magistrate asked him what he does for a living, Alexander told the court that he sells marijuana.
The chief magistrate then transferred the matter to Linden Magistrates Court where Hopkinson will appear on June 7.
According to reports Gordon was gunned down by armed bandits who fled with a bag containing about $20,000 while she was about to enter her home at Block 22, Wismar Linden.
Police say that while he was held for her murder, five months later the murder accused broke out from the Mackenzie Police Station, until he was caught in the Rupununi area.
