A West Ruimveldt welder was given a second chance after a charge of fraudulent conversion against him was dismissed yesterday by City Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Devon Cosbert, 30, of Lot 24 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown was accused of converting the sum of $200,000 given to him by Pellon Sam to purchase steel rods and other materials, to his own use and benefit.
He was entrusted with the money on July 20, at Robb Street, Georgetown.
Cosbert had pleaded not guilty to the allegation after it was read to him.
However, the matter was subsequently dismissed after the victim refused to provide the court with evidence against the defendant.
Police Corporal Deniro Jones presented the prosecution’s case and informed the court of Sam’s decision. Jones added that the investigation rank related the information to him.
When asked by the Magistrate why he wished to have the matter dismissed, the victim said, “Devon plans to fully compensate me”.
