A 13-year-old Dolphin Secondary School student is hospitalized at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after he was struck down by a Guyana Police Force vehicle.
The accident occurred around 19:30 hrs on Sunday at the junction of Regent and Light Streets.
Kaieteur News was told that four ranks were in the vehicle doing patrol duties.
The injured lad has been identified as William Amin Bouyea, of Lot 44 First Street, Alexander Village. He sustained a broken right arm and internal injuries.
According to reports, Bouyea and two of his friends were heading to church to attend “Sunday night service” when the accident occurred.
His mother, Bahati Bouyea, said that she was informed that a minibus, which was heading east along Regent Street, stopped at Light Street to pick up passengers when her son attempted to cross the road.
“His friends said that he crossed and he pass the bus but the police vehicle which was heading in the other direction (west along Regent Street) hit William,” the older Bouyea explained.
She added, “His friends said that they didn’t cross because the conductor had already closed his door so they let William cross because he was already ahead.”
It is unclear whether the rank, who was driving the vehicle, was taken into custody.
Up to press time, the lad was in the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit.
