Seeking justice for her deceased father is Sholon Dodson of Lot 16 Goed Fortuin, La Grange, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Three months ago, 57-year-old Ivor Dodson, while crossing the road, was struck by a speeding bus. He was later rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH). Since then, a court date has not been set for the driver of the bus, Frederick Gordon, and Dodson insists that it is the fault of the ranks at La Grange Police Station.
On Thursday, August 14 of this year, Dodson, according to eye witness accounts, was crossing the street on his way home from an outing when a speeding route 31 minibus “hit him”. Sholon Dodson said she received a frantic knock on her door informing her of the incident. She raced to the scene to find her father lying on the road surrounded by a crowd of people. She recalled that many of the eye witnesses thought that the man was already dead.
The victim was subsequently rushed to WDRH where he succumbed early the next day.
The bus driver, Gordon, was arrested and placed in police custody at La Grange Police Station. He was then released the following Monday, and the young woman alleges that he has since been permitted to drive the same minibus.
Three months after the incident, Sholon Dodson is still looking for justice for her father. Speaking to Kaieteur News, the aggrieved daughter related that she has been following up the case but has not gotten any results.
On Thursday, Dodson went to La Grange Police Station to inquire about her father’s case. The case has not reached the courts, and Dodson wants to know the reason for the delay.
“I went to the police at La Grange they told me to check with the DPP (Director of Public Prosecutions),” explain Dodson, “but when I made it to the DPP, they told me no case about my father reach them.” Dodson said she is baffled why a court date was not set to bring closure to the matter. Gordon, according to Dodson, did not provide her with any compensation following her father’s death. She explained that she paid all the expenses associated with her father’s hospitalization and subsequent death.
She stated that while she was not interested in monetary compensation she wants justice for her deceased father.
Dodson is currently seeking legal advice and is hoping that the matter can be resolved soon.
