Robin Persaud used his experience to good effect to capture the 40-lap cycle race dubbed ‘A Dash for Cash’ yesterday at the National Park.
Persaud, of Carlton Wheelers club, withstood a heavy down pour half way through the event to win in one hour 24 minutes and 38 seconds. Marlon Williams and Alonzo Greaves of Roarima Bikers claimed second and third respectively.
It was a tough call from the onset as the riders kicked off with a blistering pace and kept up the tempo throughout. But Persaud broke away from the pack with about 200 meters to go and pedaled his way to the finish line unchallenged.
Greaves captured seven prime prizes, while Michael Anthony claimed five, Persaud four, Paul De Nobrega, Christopher Holder and Akeem Arthur three each, Godfrey Pollydore and Mark Harris two apiece, Hamza Eastman, Paul Choo Wee Nam, Jamal John, Stephan Osborne and Raynauth Jeffery one each.
Alexander Leung won the 6-9 BMX one lap event ahead of Nicholas Dhanraj and Christopher Gobin in that order. Persaud collected $7,000 and a medal, Williams $5,000 and a medal and Greaves $20,000 including his primes and a medal.
