Police have detained two men in connection with Sunday night’s discovery of four AK-47 magazines and thousands of assault rifle shells at an Albouystown property.
The men are said to be occupants of the James and Victoria Streets’ house in which the magazines were found.
Kaieteur News understands that police will be seeking legal advice shortly to ascertain whether they can be charged.
An official said that investigators are still trying to ascertain where the assortment of assault rifle shells came from and of what use they might have been to the individuals who stashed them.
Kaieteur News was told that the shells of various calibers appeared to be old while the magazines appeared to be relatively new. The bullet casings were found stashed in bags in a shed at the back of the Albouystown property.
Police had visited the house around 19.30 hrs after receiving reports of an altercation in which a man had struck his brother with a piece of wood.
The team, which included ‘A’ Division Commander Clifton Hicken, then entered the property and located the assault rifle magazines, army clothing and a huge mound of rifle shells.
