– several teams register victories as tourney progresses
Lodge Secondary School trounced School of the Nations, 9-3 when action in the Scotiabank/Pepsi School Football Academy continued over the past week at the Ministry of Education Sports Complex Ground, Carifesta Avenue.
In all there were three games on Saturday and in the first, Hackett Ryan scored a helmet trick in the (5, 38, 40, 51) for Lodge Secondary School with support from Gravnor Shaquille (8 & 28), Smith Shamar (17 & 20) and Boter Kevin (23). Carlos Oviedo was the lone scorer for School of the Nations in the 44th, 53rd and 59th minute.
Queens College and New Campbellville Secondary then played to an exciting 1-1 stalemate after Nathan Patterson scored for the former team in the 38th minute and Daniel Ross equalizing in the 44th minute for New Campbellville Secondary.
Tutorial High School representatives, Steve Stunton (46), Mario Padmore (64) and Takir Martin (67) then teamed up to upset North Georgetown 3-1 after the latter team registered the first success, compliments of a 30th minute goal by Landale George which was eventually rendered inconsequential.
In the distaff department, Tutorial and Charlestown Secondary played to a nil all stalemate, moments before the game between female league leaders, New Campbellville Secondary and Christ Church Secondary ended with similar results.
Bishops Secondary was also in winners’ row, swamping Chase Academic Foundation 7-0. Tyreses Souvenir netted thrice (8, 49 & 56) with support from Neville Williams (11), Noel Morrison (40) and Imraan Khan (53).
Meanwhile, Lodge Secondary continues to play unbeaten, overwhelming a determined Queens College 5-1. The first half ended in a nil all stalemate when Ryan ‘Boom Boom’ Hackett delivered a powerful right foot shot about 30 yards from the goal that found the opposition’s custodian, Terron Alleyne off the line in the 51st minute.
Three minutes later, Shamar Smith widened the gap while Ryan Hackett added two more in the 56th and 65th, the last from the penalty spot. Shemar Britton managed to pull one back for the losers in the 57th minute just before Ansel Canterbury drove in the final nail in Queen’s College’s coffin with a goal in the 70 minutes on.
Berbice Educational Institute then defeated Tutorial Academy 4-1 following successes by Ticquan Kacy, Troy Munroe, Dowell Hall and Glenroy Henry. Tutorial’s goal was scored by Lemar Reid.
Canje Secondary played Vryman’s Erven Secondary yesterday afternoon while Berbice High will tackle Canje Secondary this morning from 10:30hrs. Tutorial Academy then tackles NA Multilateral in a female game from 12:00hrs.
On Monday, New Amsterdam Multilateral takes on Berbice High in a male game starting at 16:00hrs.
Several teams will be in action tomorrow morning; School of the Nations takes on Tutorial High from 10:00hrs while Charlestown Secondary plays Chase Academic Foundation at 11:15hrs. Bishops High then tackles Christ Church Secondary from 12:30hrs followed by North Georgetown up against Queen’s College.
Over in Linden New Silver City tackles Wisburg Secondary in a female game starting at 16:00hrs today. Wismar Christianburg Secondary is also scheduled to meet MacKenzie High afterwards.
