–believed to have suffered a “fits attack”
The body of a 33-year-old labourer, Bruce Walcott, was on Friday last, fished out of a canal at Belmont, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara. Walcott hailed from Cottage, Mahaicony East Coast Demerara.
Sources from the Mahaicony Police Station told Kaieteur News that about 13:40 hrs, they received a phone call from an unknown caller, who informed them that a body of an afro-Guyanese had floated up at the canal.
After police arrived at the scene, minutes later, the man’s relatives showed up and identified the body.
They believed that the 33-year-old man had ventured into the area to catch fish but instead, suffered seizures (commonly referred to as “fits”) and fell into the water. No marks of violence were evident on the body.
No one can ascertain how long the body was in the water but according to an uncle, Walcott was last seen on Tuesday around 18:30 hrs.
The body was taken to the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour, pending post mortem on Monday (Romila Boodram)
