No.48 Challengers and Whim National A are the latest teams to reach the last-16 playoffs of the 2011 New Building Society Second Division 40 over cricket competition in Berbice after they both won their final preliminary round matches in their respective zones.
In zone L, Challengers registered an easy six wicket win over No.45 to end tied with No.43 Scorpion and No.52 Survival all with three wins each but based on their superior run rate, Challengers earned the right to advance.
Meanwhile in zone J, Whim defeated John’s settlement of Port Mourant by four wickets to complete a clean sweep of that zone, sealing their spot in the playoffs.

At No.48 – No.48 Challengers thumped No.45 by 5 wickets. No.45 97 in 26.5 overs; David Etwaroo 29, Rayon Ameir 4 for 11, Muneshwar Imrit 3 for 12 and Javindra Baijnauth 2 for 34. No.48 Challengers 99 for 4 in 12.5 overs; Parasram Bedrinarain 39, Rabindranauth Bassoo 29 and Arjune Barath 2 for 30.
At Port Mourant – Whim National A beat John’s Settlement by 4 wickets. John’s Settlement 151 for 7 in 30 overs; Budhoo Baichan 51 not out, Khemraj Seelall 35 and Dennis Sookshine 2 for 31. Whim National A 154 for 6 in 26.5 overs; Tulsie Harricharran 37 not out.
At No.43 – No.52 Survival beat No.43 Scorpion by 7 wickets. No.43 Scorpion 75 in 21.3 overs; Alviss North 4 for 10 and Wayne Garnett 2 for 19. No.52 Survival 77 for 3 in 13 overs; Michael Kendall 30 not out and Quacy Albert 2 for 17.
