A total of nineteen cricket clubs in the Ancient County of Berbice on Saturday last received a combined $2 Million Dollars worth of items under a joint programme between the Berbice Cricket Board, Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and Food For the Poor (Guy) Inc.
The three organisations since mid 2011 have embarked on a project to assist clubs across Berbice in an effort to lift the standard of cricket.
The donation was the second if its kind to be done over the last three weeks. The clubs cashing in were Blairmont, Young Warriors, Bermine, Bush Lot, Bath, Whim, Gangaram, Edinburgh, Chesney, Woodley Park, No. 4, Shieldstown, Cotton Tree, D’Edward, Bush Lot Challengers, Tamarind Root, Police, No. 19 Village and Canefield of Canje.
Chairman of the Berbice Cricket Board Special Events Committee and Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster when handing over the items noted that the aim was to assist every club in Berbice to achieve self-reliance.
He related that over 25 cricket tournaments for all age groups would be played in Berbice this year while urging the clubs and executives to work harder to achieve more success while supporting the numerous programmes/projects of the Berbice Cricket Board.
Fosetr lauded the partnership of Food For the Poor and its Management team especially Executive Director Leon Davis and Jimeel Davis.
Representatives of the 19 clubs expressed gratitude to the Berbice Cricket Board, Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and Food For the Poor for the assistance. They all stated that they were happy with the rapid development taking place in Berbice cricket.
