The Youth Coalition for Transformation (YCT) is calling for the resignation of the Commissioner of Police, Henry Greene, citing the fact that the top cop has passed the retirement age and also has many alleged scandals attached to his tenure in the Force. The group is also calling for the resignation of Home Affairs Minister, Clement Rohee.
This assertion was made by YCT member Shondel Hope at a press conference held at the chambers of Attorney at Law James Bond at Lot 5 Avenue of the Republic on Friday last.
“Society has lost faith and confidence in the commissioner and he should not resume duties as commissioner… because we recognize, like the rest of Guyana, that he has seriously mismanaged the Guyana Police Force, rendering it a mere toothless poodle. Mr. Greene has presided over a litany of vicious crimes and criminal acts with many of them remaining unsolved. We will not relent on this call until both of these officials demit public office,” Hope stressed.
She explained that the YCT views itself as a watchdog in society and will not stand idly by and allow such a grave miscarriage of decency to prevail in Guyana.
Adding that the commissioner has also allowed the Police Force to be poisoned, Hope stated that the top cop has allowed a high level of interference from his political bosses, particularly, the Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee who “seems to be the micro-manager of the police force”.
“YCT has intensified its call for both the Commissioner and the Home Affairs Minister to demit office after the acts of terror committed against innocent citizens on that fateful Tuesday in December. The events of Tuesday December 6th 2011 will forever remain a bitter memory in the minds of members of YCT, which had many of its members shot at in the back, by a bunch of coward members of the Guyana Police Force, and to date there has been no independent inquiry into this matter.”.
“YCT is blaming Commissioner Greene and the Minister of Home Affairs for the travesty perpetrated against innocent citizens and continues to demand for their resignation.”
The Commissioner’s rape allegation was another reason added to the list of reasons why he should no longer function as Top Cop.
The youth arm of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) says that President Donald Ramotar and the PPP/C government “must be reminded that YCT will not stay quiet as attempts are seemingly being made to reposition Henry Greene as Commissioner of Police”.
“Regardless of what the Jamaican investigators reveal regarding Green’s allegations of rape, YCT stands ready to challenge any attempt to make Henry Greene the lawful Commissioner of Police of the Guyana Police Force.”
It is disgusting that our teachers have to protest in the streets for a…
