Forty-two students from Essequibo have now become more computer savvy after completing a one-month Information Technology (IT) training programme at the Essequibo Technical Institute (ETI.
The four weeks Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF) programme began on September 12 and concluded on October 14, 2011.
Forty-five participants from places ranging from the Pomeroon River to the Onderneeming Red Housing Scheme were shortlisted.
Unfortunately, three of those selected dropped out of the training before it ended.
The successful applicants who completed their course were praised at a simple graduation ceremony at the Technical Institute on Wednesday, last.
The students were taught several subjects which included Basic Office Ethics, Introduction to Computers, Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2007, Microsoft Word 2007, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher, Excel, Access Outlook and Computer Repairs.
Michael Singh, BNTF Project Manager, stated that the BNTF provided the IT centre at ETI with 20 computers, one HP laser printer and two 2,400 BTU air-conditioning units for the success of the exercise.
Kaieteur News understands that the BNTF in the past has conducted several other similar training programmes across the country. Their aim is to improve the skills of youths and young adults in the area of technology and computer studies.
In his charge to the students, Singh urged that they continue studies in the field since they now have a proper foundation in IT. Chris Chowkuai copped the “Best Graduating Student” award while Gaitree Bharrat won the “Most Improved Student” award.
BE THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL TO THE FOREIGN EXPLOITERS
