Powerade National Table Tennis Championships…
The more seasoned duos ensured that they separated themselves from the rest of the field Sunday night when
competition continued in the U-18 Doubles competition of the 2011 Banks Powerade National Table Tennis Championships at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
National players Denzil Hopkinson and Adielle Rosheuvel teamed-up to win an Under-18 Mixed Doubles title in straight sets 11-7, 11-8 and 11-6 against Stefan Corlette and Akeicia Nedd. The competitions will shift to the National Gymnasium from tomorrow.
In the U-18 Girls Doubles competition, Nedd teamed up with Chelsea Edghill to top the teams in a round-robin playoff. Jamaali Homer and Priscilla Greaves took second place with the US-based Saskeia Chung teaming up with Rosheuvel to finish third.
Nigel Bryan opened his titles hunt when he opted for Zane Humphrey as his partner for the U-18 Boys Doubles contest. The duo defeated Sachin Panday and Denzil Hopkinson 11-9, 6-11, 11-7, 11-6 to cart off the title. The U-18 Singles competition begins tomorrow.
Following the U-18 Singles competition, the 2011 National Table Tennis Championship will get much more interesting with the senior competitions expected to attract the best Guyanese players in the sport. The senior contests are expected to commence on Friday.
