– “No one will be sent away…”
The new low cost dialysis centre that is being set up on the East Coast of Demerara is expected to open its doors Tuesday.
In a brief telephone interview, Vic Oditt, one of the partners in this new venture explained that the centre would be located at Annadale, East Coast Demerara.
Oditt told Kaieteur News that the facility would be fitted with 11 chairs, including a standby one.
“Up to ten persons can receive the treatment at one time, and there is a standby chair just in case there is an emergency,” Oditt told this publication.
Kaieteur News was told that the cost per treatment would be $15,000.
He also highlighted that even if persons don’t have that amount, it would be further subsidized to reach their pockets.
“No one would be sent away…even if they have half, quarter…no one will be sent away” Oditt stated.
Kaieteur News was also told that the group is also working along the Ministry of Health and the National Insurance Scheme.
Oditt also disclosed that a number of local doctors are currently working on the project.
Meanwhile, Minister of Health Leslie Ramsammy on Saturday stated that works are still being done at the Georgetown Hospital’s dialysis centre. He estimated that everything would be completed within weeks.
Ramsammy had stated that persons were being trained.
The Minister explained that his Ministry is working with a Canadian Charity Group to set up the Dialysis Centre at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Ramsammy had stated that Government had spent some $10M for the support of people getting dialysis treatment, last year.
This news venture, according to a few medical sources, would force the privately owned dialysis centres to lower their prices, since a treatment at a private centre can exceed $30,000.
