Dear Editor,
I think we should carefully examine our musical and entertainment industries in order to become more recognized and to make an impact internationally.
Firstly, the interviewers need to be of a high standard befitting the international personalities and artistes.
They must be knowledgeable about some aspects of the interviewee’s country. I have found that the interviewers do not listen as keenly and respond as effectively to the interviewee as they should.
It would be effective for the interviewer to sometimes employ silence. This fact applies not only to interviewers but to Disc Jockeys (DJs) and television hosts and hostesses.
It is sad that our DJs and hosts/hostesses are adopting the USA and Jamaican accents. These individuals are emulated and serve as role models to our populace, especially our youths.
Let us not treat their importance lightly. Let us select only the best from among them with the attributes of intelligence and knowledge that will showcase Guyana.
Another aspect of the TV industry that should be improved is the use of the camera. Our cameras do not focus at the right time or for the proper duration on people or places. Also, it is not moved at the appropriate time and on the appropriate person or scene when it should be. Sometimes it does not focus on the person who is speaking and may focus on the person being addressed or on surrounding scenery.
Even our music videos depict the squalor and slums of our country. This augurs poorly for the artiste(s) involved and would make their videos less marketable.
The successful, foreign artistes always show jewellery, designer apparel, exquisite homes, cars, yachts and picturesque countries and countrysides in their videos. Let us be competitive and strive for success.
