The suspected thief who was caught red-handed stealing from Ying Ling Gin trading, was yesterday remanded to prison after he made his appearance before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with break and entry and larceny.
The allegation against Quesi Howes is that on June 25. last, he broke and entered Ying Ling Gin’s trading located at the corner of Regent and Cummings Streets and stole 34 cell phones, one laptop computer and five pairs of walkie talkie phones.
The defendant who is 25, pleaded not guilty to the charge when read.
Police Prosecutor Venetta Pindar stated that on the day in questioned at about 03:00 hrs ranks responded to an alarm that went off at Lot 133 Regent Street. Upon arrival they observed that a window on the eastern side of the building was broken.
The court was told that the ranks along with the proprietor of the store entered the building and carried out a search; they found the accused hiding beneath a huge carton box.
A search was conducted on the defendant’s person and the articles were retrieved. He was subsequently arrested and charged with the offence.
The prosecution objected to bail.
Howes was subsequently remanded to prison. He is expected to make his next court appearance on July 13.
