An early morning collision in the Pomeroon River has left an elderly man of Grant Tri Best, Lower Pomeroon, dead and the police desperately trying to locate the other party, involved in the accident.
Dead is 65-year-old, Ishree Persaud, called Rudolph, a fisherman.
According to Sookraji, one of the elderly man’s sons who was accompanying Persaud to Charity when the tragedy occurred, said that the collision occurred in the Charity area. He set the time as 4:30 hours on Monday.
The younger Persaud who only sustained minor injuries, said that they were proceeding in a westerly direction in a boat powered by a 15-horse power engine. The other vessel was powered by a 75-horse power engine. It was heading in an easterly direction.
Sookraji explained that they were carrying a light in their boat. The larger vessel that ran over their boat did not stop after the collision.
He said that his father fell out of the boat on impact. The man sustained a deep cut at the back of his head and was taken to the Oscar Joseph Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Reports are that the occupants of the larger boat may have gone in hiding. Police said they have since dispatched a search team to the area.
Persaud was heading to Georgetown when he met his demise. He was described as a very hard working and peaceful man. He is survived by his wife, Kaymattie Persaud, and his two sons, Prem Annand Persaud and Sookraji.
