– no comment until fire probe is completed, says officials
Officials of the Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) were yesterday still tallying their losses following a mysterious fire which swept through the secondary bond at its La Bonne Intention facility on Wednesday.
According to Public Relations Officer, Timothy Austin, GWI will not be commenting on the possible cause of the fire until investigators have submitted their report.
The bond – which was not totally damaged – contained PVC pipes, office stationery, fittings and other supplies.
While the fire was not expected to disrupt water supply to the surrounding areas, initial estimates put the damage at millions of dollars.
The roof was badly damaged and the heat from the fire melted a significant quantity of PVC pipes and blue hose fittings.
Reports are that about 20:15hrs on Wednesday, smoke was seen coming from the back of the GWI facility and residents of the area informed the security officers on site who immediately investigated.
Materials stored in the yard against the western wall of the secondary bond were also burning.
The compound, which houses the company’s main storage facility, features the primary bond visible from the East Coast Demerara Highway. Adjacent to that building is the secondary bond.
BE THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL TO THE FOREIGN EXPLOITERS
