Leading Guyanese female football referee, Dianne Ferreira-James, who is now residing in the Bahamas, has been appointed to officiate in the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Germany.
She is the lone Caribbean official appointed and will be in Germany on July 7 with the tournament set to start on July 13, running to August 1.
Communicating with Kaieteur Sport via email, Ferreira-James said of her preparations, “It’s tough now with school training and working. I am sure to be if not 100% fit close to it on my arrival in Germany. I train 5 days a week and attend classes 4 days a week (3 hours Monday-Thursday from 6:00 – 9:00 pm). This summer semester is very hectic as it ends days before I leave for Germany.”
The outstanding football official disclosed that she has already informed the GFF of her intention to participate in the 2010-2011 Kashif and Shanghai Tournament. She also disclosed that, “The fact that I will be in Germany takes away my summer in Guyana. My husband (Paul James) is presently coaching the Bahamas U-17 National Boys Team for their group stage in Cayman Island.”
“My son (Romario) will be in Guyana to attend trials with intention of making the National U-17 Team for Dominica. He is presently in Florida participating in the National High School Tournament as a guest player (GK).
He has shown vast improvement since representing Guyana in Four National Tournaments in Suriname 2009. He was out of touch last year but very active in U-17 League and Senior League 2010 as a Goalkeeper with Cavalier FC.”
The younger James is much taller, stronger and fitter now, as his mom notes, “…he trains daily with National Track Coach George Claire and competes in U-17 Boys 1500m /3000m as well as senior 5000m with success.”
She further informed that, “He is presently being trained by the National Goalkeeping Coach of Honduras who has joined Honduras in South Africa. On his return from South Africa he will continue to train Romario who is marked for a full Soccer Scholarship.”
“As a professional I see my son as a top class Goalkeeper in the near future. He is very discipline, and dedicated to the game driven by his passion to be successful,” Ferreira-James pointed out.
She extended congratulations to two of her colleagues and the Lady Jags football team, “Congrats to Nykasie Liverpool and now Nicola Joseph, the future is bright for Guyanese referees. My happiest moment of late was reading about the Lady Jags qualification to the CAC Games and next round of Concacaf Gold Cup. With support from the people, Business Organizations and the Government of Guyana they will succeed.”
