Captain Mahendra Persaud pleased with achievements
The West Indies Fullbore Shooting Long and Short Range kings, Guyana, returned home on Monday evening after making a clean sweep at the just concluded West Indies Fullbore Shooting Council 2010 Championships which took place at the Paragon Ranges, Christ Church, Barbados.
On hand to welcome the team at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Timehri was Director of Sport Neil Kumar along with Head Coach ACP Paul Slowe who had returned home on Sunday evening, immediately after the Short Range competition which Guyana won for the first time in Barbados.
Captain Mahendra Persaud speaking with the media at the airport, thanked his charges once again for a truly team effort which allowed the Guyanese to win the individual shoot, veteran Ransford Goodluck shooting his way past the Trinidad and Tobago duo of Norris Gomez and Justin Lall.
Guyana successfully retained both the Long Range (Milex Cup) 900 and 1000 yards and Short Range (Anchor Cup) 300, 500 and 600 yards range trophies with comfortable scores. Their triumph at the short range was the first in Barbados.
According to Captain Persaud, the Guyanese have now won in all the countries affiliated to the West Indies Council, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, Bermuda and will be aiming to maintain their success when Antigua & Barbuda hosts for the first time, next year.
Goodluck, who won most of the trophies and medals at stake, also complimented the effort of the team boasting that they are second to none when it comes to representing their country with pride. He said he is wiping the slate clean and is now focusing on the many tournaments ahead which include the Commonwealth Games in India.
The USA based shooters, John Fraser, Derrick Narine and Sigmund Douglas also returned home on Monday while Canada based Paul Archer, returned yesterday.
