Patrick Dam of Angoy’s Avenue (Cow Dam) is the winners of the Central Police Station New Amsterdam, B Division, Police Outreach Operation Youth Club 10 overs softball cricket competition.
In their final encounter which was played last Wednesday at the Central Police Station Recreational Playfield in the Central Police compound, they defeated neighbours Timmers Dam by two games to one in the best of three games contest.
In the first game, Patrick Dam got the better of their opponents by 6 runs in a close encounter. The winners batted first and made 38 all out in 5 of their 10 overs with Imran Khan top scoring with 16 runs. Bowling for Timmers Dam, Michael Seepersaud picked up three wickets.
In reply Timmers Dam were bowled out for 32 in 8.2 overs. Bowling for the winners Anil Thakur was the chief wrecker with four wickets.
In the second encounter Patrick Dam again batted first and made light work of their opponents this time, whipping them by 41 runs. Scores were Patrick Dam 53 all out in 10 overs with Norman Bender top scoring with 15; bowling for Timmers Dam Krisendat Dhana picked up three wickets. Timmers Dam in their turn at the wicket were bundled out for 12. Anil Thakur was again the main destroyers with four more wickets while Sanjay Khan supported with three.
In the final encounter, Timmers Dam turned the tide on their opponents with a commanding win by eight wickets. Patrick Dam once again took first taste of the crease and made 43 all out in 6 overs with the consistent Norman Bender alone putting up a fight with a well composed 35 as Akbar Rahim snared three wickets bowling for Timmers Dam. They in reply, hammered 46 -2 in seven overs with all rounder Krisendat Dhana seeing his team home with an undefeated 30 with Akbar Rahim making 10.
Immediately after the competition the winning team and the runner up as well as the outstanding performers were presented with trophies by members of the Guyana Police Force who were in attendance.
The winning Shane Lindie Internet café trophy was presented to Anil Thakur by Sergeant Jairam Ramlakhan while the runner up Peter Lewis Construction trophy was presented to Akbar Rahim on behalf of his team By Corporal Lawrence Thomas.
The player of the competition accolade went to Norman ‘Dachoo’ Bender of Patrick Dam for scoring 52 runs and he received a trophy from Corporal Roberto Figueira. Bender also got the best batsman prize which was presented by Assistant Superintendent Leroy Albert. Anil ‘Rattie’ Thakur received his prize for being the best bowler on show with 10 wickets and was presented with his award by Assistant Superintendent Fizal Karim Baksh. Other prizes were donated by Blue Ride Cell phone repairs.
Coordinator of the competition, Station Sergeant Jairam Ramlakhan speaking to Kaieteur Sport after the tournament, said that this is the continuation of a series of activities in which the force has embarked on to enhance the police community relationship. Which he said is all part of the police reform and their quest to do things different.
