Mix Up certainly did not mix matters with their opponents when they romped to victory in the 5th Annual Nationwide Domino tournament was contested on Sunday last at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
In the final which had at stake a first prize of $150,000, Mix Up tallied 52 games beating into 2nd place Turning point with 45, one game ahead of the 3rd placed Providence Sports Club. Turning Point pocketed $100,000 with Providence copping $50,000. Bovell’s Construction won the 4th prize of $20,000 while the MVP was Dane Bynoe who was rewarded with $20,000.
The champions were led by M. Wiltshire and L. Moore who marked 10 games each. C. Whitehead and G. Mendonca backed up with 9 apiece. Colin Mc Ewan Sr. also marked 10 for Turning Point with Royston Fung accumulating 9.
Organiser, Lyall ‘Tallman’ Gittens said he was satisfied with the level of rivalry displayed by the 36 teams who competed in a cordial atmosphere.
“I would like to thank all the teams for coming out and taking part in this competition. I also want to thank the sponsors for making this competition a resounding success. Next year I can assure you it will be bigger and better.”
Among the sponsors were Banks DIH Ltd, Ansa McAl Trading, Western Union, Courts, Sterling Products, Mambo Bar and the Guinness Bar, Durban Street.
