A number of children on the West Coast of Berbice and other areas are to derive benefits from the recently held Dinner and Dance at the Elite Banquet Hall in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada. The annual event was organised by the Aditya Kids Trust Fund Foundation, an organisation managed by a group of Guyanese businessmen now based in Canada.
The President of the body, Archie Mohan, said that the Canadian $12,000 raised would be used to expand the charitable services offered to less fortunate children in some sections of Guyana. According to him, the group depends on help from well-wishers in order to satisfy their ‘Investing in our future by helping kids’ motto.
The Aditya Kids Trust Fund Foundation is based at Bath Settlement on the West Coast of Berbice and soon a new branch is to be established at Yarrowkabra on the Linden Highway.
Among services currently offered are computer classes and internet browsing for secondary school students, a library facility and financial assistance for medical purposes and in the allied arts and sports among others. Two students received full-time scholarships to attend secondary schools.
The Dinner and Dance activity, which was dubbed a success, was attended by some 450 persons including Guyana’s Honorary Consul General to Canada, Mr. Danny Doobay and other prominent figures.
In his address to the gathering, Mr. Doobay complimented the Aditya Foundation on strides made thus far. According to a press release issued by the Foundation, the Honorary Consul General to
Canada also acknowledged the group’s efforts in supplementing that which is done by the Government of Guyana in a bid to improve the general quality of life of the Guyanese people. A congratulatory message was read on behalf of the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Dr. Frank Anthony.
The President of the Foundation, Mr. Archie Mohan, expressed gratitude to all the supporters and contributors of the Aditya Foundation. He indicated that new ventures are soon to come on stream.
