The body of a 27-year old woman who perished in the Mazaruni River on New Year’s Day has been recovered.
Relatives of Felicia Jack told this newspaper that they were contacted by police at Issanno, who informed them that the body had been recovered.
However, according to relatives, some of whom had travelled to Bartica with the aim of bringing the body to the city, Jack’s body was still lying in a boat wrapped in plastic up to late last night.
They will however journey to the area to bring the body out to Bartica today.
Jack had left her bare roots home two months ago and had contacted relatives on Christmas Day, telling them that she would be with them by yesterday.
From all indications, the mother of one was on her way out of the interior when tragedy struck.
The 27-year-old woman disappeared after the boat in which she was travelling along with five other persons capsized in the Cidoku Falls.
Kaieteur News understands that Jack and four other passengers along with their captain were travelling from Kangaruma, Middle Mazaruni in a boat when the engine developed problems near the Cidoku Falls.
The current of the water along with the panic of the passengers caused the boat to capsize, hurling everyone into the water.
The captain and four other passengers made it to shore. When they checked, Jack was nowhere in sight.
News of the tragedy eventually circulated but by the time other boat operators responded there was no way they could have located Jack.
