Following the successful inauguration of the ‘Know More about Guyana’ initiative, the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club (CS&TC) has embarked on the third phase of this initiative with an aim of exposing its membership as well as other interested Guyanese to the rich diversity of eco tourism locally as well as the diverse culture of the Guyanese people.
This follows the inauguration of the first phase in May this year which exposed participants to the many national symbols as well as the fauna and flora found in Guyana. Participants were also informed of the rich political history as well as the past and current political leaders and national heroes.
Once again, participants would be taken on tours which would form the axle of activities.
Towards this end, plans are in train to visit the Kaieteur Falls along with other historic sites like Fort Nassau in the Berbice River, Fort Island and Kyk-Over-Al, in the Essequibo River. Organizers have also signaled an intention to traverse the mountainous North West District, the Rupununi Savannahs, the Iwokrama Rainforest Resort and Shell Beach.
Plans are also in train to visit Bartica, Linden, East Berbice/Corentyne, the Essequibo Coast and Islands as well as Tourist Resorts in the Essequibo area, among other places in Guyana.
Meanwhile, race walkers are also scheduled to compete in several events during its ‘Know More about Guyana’ campaign. Activities in this department kick off with an awareness walk around the inner circuit of the National Park starting 6:30hrs on November 15.
One day before that event, the CSTC stages a mini exhibition and video show at the club’s headquarters, Back Street, Soesdyke. The focus of the documentary is to sensitize viewers of the many attractive tourist sites found in Guyana.
Meanwhile, race walkers countrywide would match steps in a 10K event around Soesdyke commencing at 6:30hrs. The race has been dubbed ‘The Olga Harry Anniversary Walk’ and would see the nation’s best walkers competing for attractive prices donated by corporate Guyana. The event is open to all ages.
