…will be tasked with marketing among other portfolios – source
By Gary Eleazar
This newspaper has been reliably informed that the Guyana Sugar Corporation, following the resignation of its Marketing Director Nisa Surujbally will be rehiring a former board member to be installed as a Deputy Chief Executive Officer.
It is unclear at this point in time when he will commence operations, Raj Singh, the former board member will be tasked with marketing and pushing agriculture aspects of the company.
According to a senior source within the industry, there are two areas that had been severely lacking.
It was reported that Surujbally, who is wife of Dr Steve Surujbally, Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission, resigned after she was reportedly locked out of a top management meeting last week.
Her resignation has sparked some tension as questions abound more than answers.
Several sources have confirmed that the incident with Surujbally happened on October 7.
Surujbally was in her office and other officials of the management team had to pass by her office to the meeting room.
According to the source, to lock someone of the calibre of Surujbally out of the meeting for being a few minutes late is a “stupid, childish excuse” that is “ludicrous. There is something more to this than meets the eye.”
Kaieteur News was told that the Director was a few minutes late for the meeting and met a locked door. A few minutes later, another senior official of the company arrived late but was let in.
Surujbally, who has worked several years with GuySuCo, tendered her resignation the same day giving three months notice.
The Marketing Director was in charge of sugar and molasses sale, shipping and ensuring that the state-owned entity is International Organisation For Standardisation (ISO) certified.
