Gordon Williams was placed on $100,000 bail yesterday by Magistrate Priya Beharry, when he appeared in court, to face charges of stealing from a vendor.
On August 11, in Georgetown, Williams of Second Street, Alexander Village, stole a haversack containing the cash as the vendor; Dereck Pertab, was unloading garden produce and other items from his minibus in the vicinity of the Bourda Market.
The charges further stated that while the vendor was not looking, Williams reached into the front seat, grabbed the haversack, and sprinted away.
According to the reports, the vendor realizing what was happening gave chase with several other persons, but failed to apprehend the accused who it was said dashed into a yard and removing the cash then left the bag on the ground.
Williams pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The matter was reported to the police and Williams was arrested by police shortly after.
