…allegedly grabbed laptop from teen
A teenaged girl was walking along the road at D’Edward Village, West Coast Berbice, on Friday night last, when one of four men in a motor car allegedly jumped out, threatened her with a scissors, grabbed her laptop computer and then rejoined the vehicle which sped away.
The sequel to the brazen theft occurred yesterday when four men appeared in the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court on the related charge of robbery under arms.
Kevion Payne, 22, of 279 Bagotstown, Public Road, East Bank Demerara; Andriff Gilliard, 24, of 276 Grove, East Bank Demerara; Charles Oliveira, 25 (address not provided) and Brian Nichols, of 414 Craig, East Bank Demerara, are the four individuals who police said committed the offence on 16-year-old Narissa Solomon.
They also disclosed that the stolen IBM laptop computer, valued at $70,000 had been recovered.
Police had reported earlier in the week that it was a quick response to the robbery which had led to the recovery of the stolen item and the arrest of the quartet.
Reports said that the car in which the men were travelling at the time was a grey Toyota Carina AT 212 motor car bearing number plates, PLL 3660.
Acting on information provided, police ranks at Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice stopped a grey Toyota AT 212 motor car with number plates PLL 6665 and containing four occupants.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the computer. A pair of scissors was found on one of the men.
But even before they had stopped the vehicle the policemen noticed that the driver had slowed down on observing the roadblock.
The police stated that they searched the area and found part of a number plate, believed to be from PLL 3660, close to where the vehicle had slowed.
In court yesterday, the Prosecutor said that the charge against the four had been laid indictably. They were not required to plead.
Magistrate Tejnarine Ramroop remanded them to custody until August 3, pending a police progress report on the case.
