M&CC calls for clearing of parapets, reserves
Some boulders positioned along government reserves
The placement of boulders and other obstructions on parapets and road reserves will no longer be tolerated by the Mayor and City Council of Georgetown (M&CC). The council is calling on citizens to desist from engaging such activities.
Public Relations Officer, Royston King, said that there are instances when Government reserves are obstructed to such an extent that they create the potential for accidents.
A release issued by the municipality pointed out that such objects could affect the ability of motorists to manoeuvre their vehicle in those roadways whenever the need arises.
“The council is urging those involved to remove these boulders and to keep the parapets free, clean and tidy.”
It was also revealed in the release that the City Engineer has observed that some citizens have elevated and planted shrubs and other flowering plants on city reserves and parapets. The release noted that in many cases these built up parapets impede the run-off of storm water into the street drains.
“This, in turn, affects the integrity of the road ways. As a result, the council is notifying those concerned that it may be necessary to disrupt such arrangement to carry out enhancement works.”
The municipality’s calls come on the heel of the recent release of the second tranche of $10M from Government, intended to continue with enhancement works in different sections of the city.
Among the works that are ongoing as a result are weeding, grading of parapets and other reserves.
