Police ranks were deployed to the CLICO Head Office on Camp Street as reports of threats to staff are being investigated.
The move by the police stemmed from action by the Judicial Manager, Maria van Beek, who by way of letter, authorized Dinanath Deodat, Administrative Officer, CLICO Life and General Insurance Company, to uplift all assets, including the keys belonging to CLICO Guyana and in the possession of Premium Security Services.
The letter was addressed to John Sandy of Premium Security Services, an arm of Caribbean Resources Limited, a company that is indebted to CLICO Guyana.
Yesterday morning police ranks were seen in strategic positions at the CLICO head office, Camp Street, and were also manning the gates and seeking to direct visitors to the head office.
This was even as a few ranks from the private security firm, Premium Security Services, which was contracted by CLICO (Guyana) as a result of the relationship between the local company and CLICO Trinidad, were on the premises.
CLICO Guyana plunged into financial crisis, following the liquidation of CLICO Bahamas, leaving more than 50 per cent of its assets seemingly impaired.
The operations of the local insurance company have been scaled down with several employees sent home.
On February 25, last, Commissioner of Insurance Maria Van Beek was appointed Judicial Manager and is currently assessing the state of affairs at the company that will be presented to the Court.
A senior police official told this newspaper that there are reports that the private security firm was allowing clients to enter the premises to threaten the remaining staff members. This necessitated the removal of the security service.
