Fourteen-year-old Essequibo Island Secondary School all-rounder Ricardo Adams stroked a fluent 83 and took 5-33 with his spin to lead Wakanaam/Leguan to a 62-run victory against Upper Demerara yesterday at the Police ground in the first semi-final of the Ministry of Education, National Sports Commission and Guyana Cricket Board National School’s 40-overs under-16 cricket competition.
Adams smashed nine fours and two sixes and added 100 for the second wicket with Paul Williams (18) after joining forces at 20-1 when Toolsiram Premnauth (1) was removed by Delon Williams.
Paul Williams was then bowled by his unrelated namesake Delon at 120-2 before Adams was eventually trapped leg before to Andrew Morris at 137-5.
Delon Williams finished with 4-28 while Keno Baird bagged 2-29 for Upper Demerara who were dismissed for 143 from 36 overs chasing the 205 in 34 overs made by the Essequibians.
Baird top scored with a brave 31 while Ray Peters made 27 as Adams crowed a fine day at the office. He received valuable support from Sewnarine Odit who had 2-26.
North Georgetown and Corentyne face-off today from 10:00hrs at the same venue (Police) in the second semi-final with the winner of this match facing Wakanaam/Leguan in the final on Wednesday at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence.
