Mahadeo Kumar, 42, a pepper farmer of Timehri, Alliance Road, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on Monday charged with planting cannabis and having in his possession narcotics for the sole purpose of trafficking.
It is alleged that the defendant on February 12, last, at Demerara River, in addition to cultivating the crop, had in his possession one kilogram of cannabis for the sole purpose of trafficking.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate refused bail and transferred the matter to the Providence Magistrate’s Court for February 24.
