– FIFA awaits Contractor’s Agreement before okay
By Rawle Welch
Many pertinent topics related to the plans and projections of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) came up for discussion yesterday when President Colin Klass met with members of the media, at the entity’s Head Office.
Klass said that while many of the programmes may have to be scaled down due to the existing global economic crisis, the GFF still intends to get off most of the projects planned.
He disclosed that ambitions such as a National League and Schools competition are still on the cards and the GFF is currently locked in negotiations with potential sponsors and the relevant stakeholders to realise these goals.
He added that the education of players and coaches as well as football administrators will also be part of their focus this year, but cautioned that the extent of those projects will depend on the amount of financial support they receive.
Among the other topics dealt with were the GOAL Project, Women’s football, Beach football, the confirmation of a National Coach, Doping and Betting in the sport, interaction with other disciplines, Kashif & Shanghai dispute and the re-introduction of football in schools.
Confirmation of National Coach –
Presently we’ve written to Wayne Dover outlining our interest in him and he is to respond. On the subject of a Technical Director (TD), we don’t see it prudent or economically viable to retain one, especially since we are not scheduled to play in any international tournaments for the next two years.
As you are aware, there is an economic downturn around the world, so we have to be very prudent with our spending.
What the General Council has agreed to do is to use this period to regroup because most of the players who had represented us over the past few years have already signalled their intentions to call it a day where national duties are concerned.
We will use the time to strengthen our base to ensure that the future of the sport is secured. Most times TD’s work with players who’ve already gained a high level of skills, so his job mainly is to fine tune those and implement an organised system.
Technical Department
–
This is an area we intend to reinforce. There is someone there already in Lyndon France and hopefully; he will be assisted by a few others shortly.
I welcome the interest shown by former players including national Captain Charles Pollard and Collie Hercules and we are ready and willing to engage these aspirants in discussions about their request to become coaches.
In the case of Kayode McKinnon, we did expose him to a training course in Trinidad and Tobago.
Our intention is to have a qualified coach in every area.
Sponsorship
–
In this area, the signals are certainly pointing to a slow down in support and this is manifested by the fact that many of the business entities that we’ve approached have told us to put things on hold for the moment.
If you look at the activities of FIFA you will see that there has been a slowing down of its programmes say except for Administration and Developmental Programmes
which are essential for the smooth running of the Organisation.
Kashif & Shanghai dispute –
We’ve done all that was required of us, but we haven’t received a response as yet.
This week I’m going to send a reminder to the T&T Federation to find out the status of the investigation.
GOAL Project –
As we speak I just received an e-mail from FIFA’s Development Officer for CFU Harold Taylor asking me to get the Contractor’s Agreement, a document they are awaiting.
The GOAL Board’s Meeting is scheduled to be held sometime this month in Zurich, Switzerland and it is at this Meeting that such projects are approved. We will carry more of the interview with Klass in a forthcoming edition.
It is disgusting that our teachers have to protest in the streets for a…
