Retired Guyana Defence Force Major Winston George, the second kidney transplant patient, has been discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.
George was discharged and was reunited with his family late yesterday afternoon, having completed a series of tests.
Very elated to be home with his family, George said that, after nine years, he now feels some amount of relief.
Physically, George said, he is not 100 percent there, but he is getting there.
“Because I was only allowed to use a liquid diet for the past few days, I am still a bit weak; but apart from that, I am well…am urinating as normal. I feel fine!” George said.
Moreso, he said, being home in the care of his family is a feeling he had been longing for for the past few days.
Having successfully completed his surgery on Sunday last, George said, he didn’t expect to be home so soon, but he is thankful to the staff at the Georgetown Public Hospital for ensuring that his discharge was sooner than expected.
Major George’s daughter who donated the kidney was discharged on Thursday, after doctors deemed her fit to return home. The kidney transplant, the second to be performed locally, was completed in record time at the Georgetown Public Hospital last Sunday.
The surgery was done by Dr Rahul Jindal, who was aided by his overseas team and local health personnel.
The first kidney transplant was conducted last August.
BE THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL TO THE FOREIGN EXPLOITERS
