Relatives are of the belief that a two-by-four door bar may be the weapon which the killer(s) might have used to kill 41-year-old Vieo Persaud, called Sunil, who was bludgeoned to death at his Lot 29, Meten-Meer-Zorg home on December 5 last.
The man’s relatives told Kaieteur News yesterday that, since the incident, they have not been able to locate the two-by-four greenheart plank that the now dead man used to secure his door.
They told this newspaper that it appears as if Sunil had put up a strong fight with his killer(s), as they observed that a lot of items were found broken in the house when they had cleaned the premises.
The family also noted that they found pieces of the man’s brain during the cleaning, which they noted indicates that he was severely ‘bashed’ in the head.
Meanwhile, investigators have detained a number of individuals from within the area, who may have relevant information on what took place on the night that the man was robbed and killed.
On Friday last, Sunil’s body was discovered in a pool of blood at his home by one of his friends with whom he was having a few ‘drinks’ on Thursday night. She told the police that Sunil had returned from Suriname recently and invited her and two other friends over at his house for ‘some drinks.’
She had noted that they were all drinking together and playing loud music; and after it was getting late, she decided to leave and go home, leaving Sunil with the two other friends.
According to the woman, she came back to Sunil’s house very early Friday morning and found the gate and his door wide open.
She said that she entered the yard and peered through the window and saw her friend lying in a pool of blood next to his front door, which was wide open. She immediately raised an alarm, and neighbours rushed to the scene.
Kaieteur News understands that one of the three women who were taken into custody told investigators that, during the course of Thursday night, when they were all drinking together, five boys came to meet Sunil, but only one of them entered the house and spoke with him, while the others waited on the road.
The police have since recovered a pair of slippers, some clothing and a number of beer bottles from the house, which they also dusted for finger prints.
