Edward Gudge, 38, of Remus Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara, appeared yesterday before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to a charge of discharging a loaded firearm and an attempt to commit a felony.
It is alleged that on January 27, last, at McDoom Public Road, East Bank Demerara, Gudge discharged a loaded firearm at Dharmindra Deen with the intent to maim disfigure or cause him grievous bodily harm.
It was further alleged that on the same day in question, while being armed with a gun, he attempted to rob Deen.
The defendant denied both allegations after they were read to him by the magistrate.
Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves objected to bail being granted to the defendant citing the serious nature of the offence and the penalty the charge attracts.
The prosecutor further asked that bail be denied, citing the fact that a weapon was used to carry out the offences.
Prosecutor Gonsalves told the court that when the defendant was arrested, the allegations were put to him, and he admitted in a caution statement to both offences.
The prosecutor’s objection was upheld and the magistrate remanded the defendant. The father of one will make his next court appearance on July 10.
